“A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination
and hard work.”

Amy Cowley has become a hero to me through
all the hard work she puts in for herself and our family. As a young girl, she
always wanted to be good at sports. Sadly, there wasn’t any girls’ soccer teams
where she lived when she was in the early stages of her childhood. As a result
of this, she had to play on boys teams to continue her love for sports. When
her family came to Utah, there were girls’ teams and she picked up her new
favorite sport, softball.
Her dad was always pushing her
to be the best that she could be. He also pushed her in school, saying that she
needs to be able to support her family. She always planned on a college
education, and was determined to play sports in college also. Some of her
childhood coaches told her that she could play sports in college. She
tirelessly worked to become dominant in her sports that included soccer,
softball, and volleyball. Eventually, all the hard work paid off. She was going
to be able to play softball for the University of Utah and study business
there. Everything she worked for was all turning out well. She was not only
succeeding in her athletics, but she was also doing well in school, and it
looked like she was going to be able to obtain a good career full of success.
After four
years of going to college, the work wasn’t over. She was done with softball,
but she wasn’t done with business. She was married and wanted to find a job.
Along with my dad, they planned to both get jobs and be able to support a family.
Thus far, they both have jobs and everything has gone according to plan. She
has shown me how hard work can and will pay off if you keep at it.
What I
Learned/What She Showed Me
She has set
an example to me through almost everything she does. She is always dedicated to
fighting for the good of my family. She has gone through challenges, but has
overcome them with all of her perseverance. She is always willing to help us
and sacrifice time and hard work so we can be the best that we can be. She is
an example to me, and I’m sure many others find her to be an example. I learned
from all this to work hard till the end, and fight for the good of those around
you in order to be successful and happy in life.
Why She is a Hero
I have learned a lot of things and I am constantly learning things from
my mom every day. She fits the criteria of a hero because she is an example to others
and me, she is always willing to sacrifice for my family, and she is always
fighting for us to be the best that we can be. The only way that she is an
exception to our criteria is that she hasn’t gone through a big heroic act, but
rather she does things on a daily basis to show me how I want to be or that
benefit my family. Also, although she fights and struggles for the good of our
family, she isn’t dedicated to contributing to society, even though she might
help a little.
